So glad you came to visit my Digital Deputy web page! My name is DeBora King, and I am passionate about three things – researching emerging technology, motivating people, and raising awareness to prevent cyber bullying. Teaching digital character education to kids and adults is my way of bringing this vision to life.
My Background: Over a course of 15 years, I worked for one of the world’s largest hotel chains in the Risk Management Information Technology division. At Marriott’s Headquarters I worked as a Programmer Analyst supporting Directors, Operations Managers, and over 300 users in Washington, DC, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, and Hawaii. Aside from my day job, I worked as an advocate for education. I was appointed to Montgomery County, MD Public School’s Committee for Family Life & Human Development representing nearly 140 schools. I was elected as Vice President for Programs for Montgomery County Council of PTAs serving over 50,000 members.
In addition to my workshops and public speaking engagements, I serve as the proud PTSA President of a nearly 2,500 student body at Wakefield High School and I am a Girl Scout Leader and guest blogger for Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines.
My Mission: I want to create an environment to raise awareness about the digital world, and bring to light how we can take advantage of its benefits and how to steer clear of its perils. I’m looking forward to supporting your school, business or organization researching social media strategies, teaching digital citizenship and advocating for online safety.
My Company: I created Digital Deputy to combine the two jobs I love doing the most – Information Technology and Education Advocacy. Keeping up with the latest technology tools and trends is like playing in the sand for me. Transferring that knowledge to you by introducing new digital business tools, teaching safe computing methods, and providing safeguard tactics against cyber attacks is so rewarding for me. Through my workshops, blogs, feeds, and posts I enjoy sharing the ‘positive’ digital experience with you!
